Projects
Häuser Timber Frame has successfully completed and signed off a bespoke 3-bedroom self-build property in Macclesfield, delivering a high-quality, energy-efficient home that reflects the client’s focus on sustainability and modern construction standards.
The client selected Häuser Frame Option C, a premium timber frame solution designed for exceptional thermal performance, airtightness, and precision delivery. This option is engineered to support both high energy standards and rapid on-site installation—making it an ideal choice for self-builders seeking long-term efficiency and comfort.
Option C provides a fully engineered timber frame kit, fabricated off-site for maximum quality control and assembled on site with absolute accuracy, U Value 0.14 . The system includes:
- Precision-engineered I-joist or Metal-Web joists and a fully constructed roof structure
- Factory-fitted external wall panels incorporating:
- 120mm PIR insulation (0.022 W/mK) for superior thermal performance
- High-quality breather membrane for moisture management
- On-site enhancements, including:
- Additional 25mm PIR insulation layer
- Foil vapour control layer (VCL)
- 25mm or 35mm service battens to support airtightness and installation efficiency
Plasterboard and external finishes were completed in accordance with the STA Pattern Book wall specification EW30-PIR-03 REI30 to ensure full compliance and optimal performance.
Why Option C?
Option C is the preferred system for clients who prioritise energy efficiency, sustainability, and long-term performance. It is particularly suited to projects aiming for Passivhaus principles or seeking to achieve improved SAP ratings.
Key advantages include:
- Outstanding U-values thanks to consistent factory-installed insulation
- High levels of airtightness, reducing heat loss and running costs
- Rapid on-site erection, minimising delays and weather-related risks
- Enhanced build accuracy, made possible through controlled off-site fabrication
- Improved sustainability, due to efficient materials and a reduced carbon footprint
The completed home in Macclesfield stands as a showcase of how modern timber frame construction can elevate self-build projects—delivering speed, precision, environmental performance, and long-term value.
This project demonstrates the strength of the Häuser Frame Option C system and the benefit of choosing a fabrication-first approach for a sustainable, energy-efficient future.
